Major Components of Steering And Suspension

The steering and suspension components are

  • Steering Tie Rod: A steering tie rod connects two front wheels in a motor vehicle’s steering components. This ensures that both of the wheels turn at the same angle. These components undergo regular wear and tear.

  • Coil springs / Helical Springs: Coil Springs store energy and then release it. We recommend changing the Coil Springs in pairs so that both sides of the vehicle stay safe and secure.

  • Shock Absorbers: Shock Absorbers play a very crucial role in a vehicle’s suspension system by moderating and limiting the body movements of the vehicle. Other purposes of the Shock Absorbers include stabilizing the vehicle ride, the vehicle tyres, minimizing the tyre wear, reducing overall suspension wear, etc.

  • Ball Joints: Ball Joints are spherical bearings and these connect the track control arms to the steering knuckle. The Ball Joint is made of a bearing stud and socket enclosed in a rubber-like casing.

  • Track Control Arms / Wishbones: This is a hinged suspension link between the suspension hub and the chassis. The chassis end of a control arm is connected by a single pivot, generally a rubber bushing, that can then control the wheel side of the wishbone while maintaining the distance from the chassis side mount.

All these parts along with others play an integral part in the maintenance of safety and function of the steering and suspension of the vehicle. Here at Maui Auto Care, we offer components from all the leading brands in the business.

POPULAR QUESTIONS

What is the relationship between the suspension system and the steering?

The suspension system absorbs the energy from road irregularities such as potholes and helps to maintain vehicle stability. And the steering system transfers the input from the steering wheel to the steering gear as well as the other steering parts to control the direction of the car.

What Are The Common Problems Occurring with Steering or Suspension Systems?

Common steering problems are difficulty in turning the wheel, lack of response from the steering wheel, steering wheel vibration or shaking, drifting or tracking problems, and grinding noises.

What suspension components affect steering?

The worn or loose components often badly impact the ability of the suspension system to control the motion as well as alignment angles.
